What to do in the winelands this spring

spring is a time of rejuvenation in the Cape countryside
Springtime in Cape Town

Enjoy new seasonal menus

It has become increasingly frowned upon to serve foods that are out of season and therefore carry a larger carbon footprint and quite frankly don’t taste as ripe and delicious. Instead the Cape's culinary elite have really embraced a focus on fresh local produce and with that we welcome all of their new spring menus. Things to look out for include asparagus, artichokes, avocados, beetroots, spinach and waterblommetjies. Fruits include the Cape gooseberry, guava, melons, strawberries and kumquats.

Go strawberry picking

The strawberry season is a short one, September-December so head out to one of these Stellenbosch strawberry farms to pick your own or to buy fresh.

Sip outside at some of the most scenic vineyards

We enjoyed the cosy fireside drinking this winter but now that spring fever is here we are ready to head outdoors. Most vineyards at the Cape have beautiful outdoor tasting facilities, so get outside and warm up in the soft spring sun whilst drinking the finest South African wines.
