Constantia wine tasting

Are you trying to decide which wine valley to explore on one of our bespoke wine tours? Why not consider Constantia? It is certainly one of the prettiest wine valleys, is steeped in history and is renowned for it's top class wines. Here are just a few of the highlights...

Drinking the Vin de Constance at Klein Constantia.

Vin de Constance

Constantia has long been known for its sweet wines; once sought after by European nobility and requested by Napoleon on his death bed. This original Wyn of Constantia was later recreated by Klein Constantia and is today known as Vin de Constance, made from the unbotrysised muscat de frontignan. In 2015 this dessert wine became the first South African wine to make Wine Spectators top 10 wines of the world.

Groot Constantia

Groot Constantia and Klein Constantia once formed part of a much larger estate called Constantia which was established in 1685 by the first governor of the Cape, Simon van de Stel. Groot Constantia is the oldest producing wine estate in South Africa and have their own example of Constantia wyn called the Grand Constance. There is so much for the visitor to do here from museums, cellar tours, multiple dining options and don't forget the wine, which is consistently of the highest quality.
